Collecting your car from the pound.

If your car has been clamped as a result of a parking offence, the amount that you should pay in London is set at £65. By visiting our Bailiff Fees section in our Downloads area you will see that we have provided further details on this. In addition to the amount of £65 you will also have to pay the cost of the PCN, but you will automatically qualify for the 50% discounted rate.

Regulations clearly provide that the only charges that can be made are those for the removal of the clamp and the PCN at the discounted rate… not the time taken to declamp or the distance that a driver would have to travel.

The majority of local councils will only release your car back to you, if you can provide
sufficient documentation to prove that you are either the owner, or that you have the owner’s permission. As most motorists have their vehicle documentation at home, it is very common for them to have to return to the pound the following day, thereby incurring an additional storage charge as well. The following documentation is normally required for the release of the vehicle. You will also need to ensure that full payment is made.

Documentation required:
V5 Vehicle Registration Document, and/or:
Certificate of Insurance
Bill of Sale or HP agreement for the vehicle
Full driving licence

Collecting a vehicle on behalf of the owner:

A signed letter of authority will be necessary from the owner, giving you permission to collect the car, in addition to proof of ownership. Identification will also be required for the person collecting the vehicle to include of course a copy of a valid drivers licence.

Courtesy cars/Lease cars:
Copy of the courtesy/lease agreement, or a fax from the company supplying the vehicle giving details of authorised drivers. Identification for the driver named in the agreement.

Company cars:
A fax from the company that owns the car giving details of the person authorised to use the car. A fax copy from the company, of the registration certificate or certificate of insurance identification for the driver.
