What will happen if my car
is untaxed?
Vehicles identified as untaxed by the ANPR can be clamped
and impounded. For clamped vehicles
a valid tax disc must be produced along with a release fee. Those
cars not claimed within seven days
can be crushed. This particular situation is now becoming very
common in the London area. In more rural areas, we have found
that the individual police force may allow you to produce your
documents within 7 days to a local police station. Some police
forces are more relaxed than others on this offence.
By visiting the Bailiff fees section
of our secure Downloads area, you
will see that we have provided you with the recent copies of the
specific rules and regulations concerning this, together with
the current fees that can be charged for the release
of the vehicle.
What will happen if my car is uninsured?
Vehicles identified as being driven by uninsured/unlicensed drivers
are also being clamped and impounded.
However, it is much more difficult to arrange for the vehicle
to be released in these circumstances. This is because; the registered
keeper or owner of the vehicle
must produce at a specified Police Station the following:
• Proof that they are the registered keeper/owner of the
vehicle.
• A valid certificate of insurance covering his/her use
of the vehicle and a valid licence authorising him to drive the
vehicle.
• Or nominate a third person
who is able to produce, at a specified Police Station, a valid
certificate of insurance covering that nominee’s use of
that vehicle and a valid drivers licence authorising that nominated
person to drive the vehicle.
• Pay all charges for the removal and retention of the
vehicle.
